Humanity In Us

“Waiting for what comes next, I too can relate to feeling frozen and in this time of sorrow and pain I wanted to do what I could to create an emotionally impactful message. While there are many unanswered questions, inevitably things will return but when they do what is going to be the lasting thing we remember? Honored to collaborate with distinguished composer DBR, I become overwhelmed with emotion realizing the lives and families touched all over the world. While there’s not much I can do, I hope this message and reminder to think about how you treat other people inspires you to hold your hand out to people in need and share compassion.”

“The brilliant young filmmaker Keegan Carlson asked me to compose the work to his short film HUMANITY IN US. I was immediately moved by the images and work of John Waddell, and his frozen in time sculptures. Keegan added the masks at a time of pain, crisis, and stasis. Sheltering in place takes on a new meaning as I consider how I am held captive on-line and in my home. We both recognize that our shared suffering is not equal, and far too many humans are facing new depths of despair. Hope remains, but are we truly all in this together?”

The Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix is honored to be the home of John Waddell’s sculpture, “The Gathering”. These larger than life-size bronze figures are on display on the east side of the Herberger theater (off of 3rd Street & Monroe) in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
